This YouTube 20 minute Yoga Movement practice is great to improve your balance. ALL LEVELS from BEGINNERS to ADVANCED are catered for in this sequence. This section was taken from a recent LIVE ONLINE CLASS during the lockdown. This practice is good for your body and good for your mind! Remember… PRACTICE NOT PERFECTION!

We live the majority of our lives running around from place to place as fast as we can locked inside our minds, we disconnect from our body. I know this because I was that person. I suffered from depression and severe anxiety attacks that were triggered through life events and lifestyle choices. I started to practice yoga and mindfulness at a dark time in my life, this ultimately helped me improve my mental health as much as my physical health.

I hope you enjoy this 20 minute free yoga routine. My form of Yoga Movement is a form of yoga that includes the physical and mental health benefits of yoga without using the mysticism or philosophical elements of the Hindu tradition that yoga is grounded in, there’s no mention chakras, chanting or Sanskrit in Mindful Yoga. My yoga practice is combined Mindfulness with science to bring moment to moment awareness of the mind and body throughout the practice. In my practice I don’t name shapes in English or Sanskrit as I believe the pose names to be oppressive to your body, there is no such thing as the ‘perfect pose’, the fetish with perfect alignment on Instagram and the wider yoga community shows a lack of understanding of basic biomechanics, somatic awareness and the force of gravity.

The Yoga Movement is great for men that are interested in yoga but maybe put off by the talk of Chakras and chanting. There are still lots mis-conceptions about yoga especially here in the UK, with this Mindful Yoga practice hopefully you can develop a deeper connection and understanding of your mind and body to improve your mental and physical health, just as I did when I was suffering from depression and severe anxiety attacks. Movement, meditation and getting outdoors helped me through some dark periods in my life.
