Yoga for Stress Relief – Part 1. Iyengar Yoga Sequence.

Stress and anxiety are major problems for many people living in the modern tech-driven world. A regular yoga practice can help with both the physiological and the psychological aspects of these issues. In Part 1 of our Stress Relief series, we take you into a variation of
Sun salutations, otherwise known as Salute to the Sun or in Sanskrit, Surya Namaskar.

The logic behind this sequence is that the strong, swift physical movements from one yoga pose to the next, occupy the mind and distract it from the daily mental afflictions and concerns which can roll round and round in our heads. These dynamic actions should put a brake on the thoughts which can buzz round and round in our heads.

This sequence includes the following poses:
Urdhva Hastasana
Adho Mukha Svanasana
Chauranga Dandasana
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana
Adho Mukha VIrasana

This is a flow sequence of yoga poses which link together to offer an energetic yoga workout. This both yoga for strength and yoga for flexibility.

Studies have shown that a regular yoga practice helps with low back pain, as well as weight loss and a host of mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression.

The surya namaskar is a fast yoga sequence, but when you incorporate the breath it becomes a mindful meditation which can promote tranquility and good health.
