Kino has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for nearly 20 years and is one of only a few select students to receive Certification to teach by her guru, Sri K. Pattahbi Jois in Mysore, India. The Standing Poses are foundational poses that build strength, flexibility and stamina. Join this class to learn good alignment, detailed technique and safe modifications to make the practice accessible for all levels from beginner to advanced. When done properly, the Standing Poses work forward bending, twisting, internal and external rotation of the hips and shoulder, and prepare the body for backbends. By holding the poses for five breaths on each side the Standing Poses train the proprioception of the muscles and informs the body to know where it is placed in space. This sense of spatial orientation is crucial to the body awareness cultivated by years of practice.
